  2. If you’re getting a GaN charger, make sure to get a PD charger with PPS. I got a GaN charger recently and I noticed even though it’s the same wattage as my oem Samsung charger, it charges much faster while staying colder. So I did some digging and this is what I found.

PD is just a set of standard voltages and currents that chargers support. So your phone requests a specific voltage and current combination from the charger based on factors like temperature, time, etc. But PPS is an addition to PD. It’s is basically your phone and the charger communicating in real time to get the perfect voltage and current in micro steps (unlike base PD which has a few large steps). Usually what happens is the phone requests some amount of power, then the charger provides it, then the phone heats up, and the phone has to request a very small amount of power until the phone cools down. Because the steps are large, it ends up taking longer to charge. With PPS, the phone gets to choose the perfect charging speed where the rate at which the phone heats up match the heat dissipation to the environment. So it’ll charge at the edge of the maximum possible speed without heating up.

  3. This is genuinely useful. Real experience with electricity costs, room size, and maintenance matters more than flashy AC specifications.
